Automatic Cat Litter Boxes – Is Your Cat Worth It?
Cats are my favorite pet. Next comes dogs, but my first love is cats. Probably because growing up, my sister and I could only have a cat, no dogs! So I have had many cats throughout my life. My first cat, Pepper, was an indoor/outdoor cat. Indoors most of the time, except when he had to go to the bathroom, and then he became an outdoor cat! Now we lived on four acres, so letting him go out was no problem and never caused any problems with him “going to the neighbors and using their yard.”
When I lived in Colorado, however, the indoor/outdoor cat changed to an indoor cat — and that was mainly because of the wild life eating the cats! So with the indoor cat, now you had to maintain a cat litter box. Back in those days — I am dating myself here — I have to admit, automatic cat litter boxes were not yet available.
Now-a-days with the automatic litter boxes becoming popular, when you have a cat, you can decide what kind of litter box you want. Probably the best litter box to consider when purchasing one is the automatic cat litter box. Let’s face it, these devices get rid of the poop fast and easy before another pet or even your small children get to the litter box.
So what are some of the good automatic litter boxes on the market? Well, personally, I like LitterMaid or CatGenie because they sense when the cat has finished and then begins to to either rake through the litter to get the droppings and deposit in a self-contained area, or flush the soiled litter quickly and easily.
Now your house can be basically “odor free” unlike the manual-type of litter boxes, that require you to empty the box yourself. And if you work, or have a busy household, that chore somehow gets put off until it is overflowing. And there is nothing worse than looking at a litter box that needs changing!
LitterMaid automatic litter box has several different types of litter boxes. After your cat has finished using the box, an automatic rake comes out and pushes the solids to the end of the box, and then deposited into a covered container. You can easily change the container and never have to even come in contact with the waste. LitterMaid’s container is large enough to last a week if you have one cat, or several days if you have more than one.
CatGenie automatic litter boxCatGenie completely rinses the litter granules every time your cat uses the litter box. This makes sure that everything is washed away and keeps everything more sanitary, clean and germ free. The CatGenie uses a cleaning cartridge that lasts for a month or longer–depends on how many cats and how often it is used.
Granted automatic cat litter boxes do cost more than the old standard litter box. However, they give your a more sanitary environment and are easier to maintain and require less work on your part. And really, aren’t you worth it? You can spend more time cuddling and playing with your cat and listening to him purr and tell you how happy he is to be in “your” family.
